On a GOA Expedition, participants work as a team, camping, cooking and living in wilderness settings and/or group campsites. With safety and fun in mind, GOA partners exclusively with professional and experienced outfitters for technical activities such as rock climbing and whitewater rafting. GOA courses are designed for young people ages 14-18, who are looking for adventure and an opportunity to express themselves in writing, drawing and photography. Participants will also learn low impact camping, and, depending on the expedition, rock climbing and river-running skills.
Students will also have an opportunity to publish their writing, illustration or photography in GOA's print and online magazine, The Expedition Journal.
In addition to offering exciting stand-alone adventures, Great Outdoors Academy works one-on-one with schools and social service organizations to create meaningful expeditionary learning programs. Please contact us to discuss what you may have in mind for a custom writing-based expedition.
